Adeline Yen Mah is a Chinese-American author and physician, renowned for her memoir “Falling Leaves: The Memoir of an Unwanted Chinese Daughter.” She spent her childhood in Tianjin, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, experiencing a difficult upbringing with an abusive stepmother. Mah also authored “Chinese Cinderella and the Secret Dragon Society” and “Watching the Tree.” She established the Adeline Yen Mah Foundation to support underprivileged children in China. Mah earned her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in England and practiced medicine in California before retiring.
