Alexander O’Neal is a distinguished American R&B singer and songwriter who gained international recognition in the mid-1980s as a solo artist. He achieved 11 US Top 40 singles on the R&B chart, including well-known tracks such as “If You Were Here Tonight” and “Criticize.” O’Neal’s 1985 debut album featured three singles that reached the R&B Singles Chart’s Top 20. He found even greater success in the UK, with 14 Top 40 singles between 1985 and 1996. Some of his other notable works include his debut single “Innocent,” the Top 5 R&B hit “Criticize,” and the R&B chart-topping “Fake.” O’Neal has also appeared on TV shows like “Celebrity Big Brother” and “Gone Country” and received a Soul Train Music Award in 1987 for Best R&B/Soul Single. His Minneapolis, Minnesota home was previously owned by the renowned musician Prince, with whom he collaborated on the song “The Arms of Orion” for the Batman soundtrack.
