Dennehy’s career took flight in the early 1960s with captivating stage performances in New York City. He gained acclaim for his powerful portrayals in plays like “Hamlet,” “Death of a Salesman,” and “Long Day’s Journey into Night.” His Broadway debut came in 1977 with “Translations,” earning him a Tony Award nomination.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dennehy graced Broadway stages in numerous productions, including “The Iceman Cometh,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” and “Death of a Salesman,” for which he won a Tony Award in 2003. His stage career spanned over five decades, with more than 100 plays to his credit.

Dennehy’s talent was recognized with two Tony Awards, one for Best Featured Actor in a Play for “Death of a Salesman” (1999) and the other for Best Actor in a Play for “Long Day’s Journey into Night” (2003). In 2010, Dennehy was inducted into the prestigious American Theatre Hall of Fame.
