Dorothy Hamill, an American figure skater, rose to fame after winning the gold medal at the 1976 Winter Olympics. She became well-known for her iconic wedge haircut, often referred to as the “Dorothy Hamill haircut.” Throughout her career, Hamill participated in various ice shows such as the Ice Capades and Stars on Ice and was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2006. She has also written two books about her life and experiences.

Hamill’s figure skating career began with her winning the novice ladies’ title at the U.S. Championships in 1969. She later performed at Madison Square Garden as part of the exhibition tour following the 1969 World Figure Skating Championships. Although she briefly ventured into acting with a guest appearance on “Fantasy Island” in 1983 and a small role in “The Nutcracker: A Fantasy on Ice” the same year, she ultimately chose to concentrate on her skating career.

Throughout her life, Hamill has been candid about her battles with depression and anxiety. Despite these challenges, she remains a cherished figure in the world of figure skating, inspiring others with her talent and perseverance.
