George Tillman Jr., an American filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer, rose to prominence with his direction of the movies “Soul Food” (1997) and “Men of Honor” (2000). He is also acclaimed for producing the “Barbershop” franchise and the TV show “Soul Food: The Series.” Recently, Tillman directed and produced “The Hate U Give” (2018), which is based on Angie Thomas’s bestselling novel. His work has earned him nominations for a Black Reel Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay for “Notorious” (2009).
