Gloria Stuart was an American actress and activist, renowned for her portrayal of the elderly Rose Dawson Calvert in the iconic Hollywood film “Titanic” (1997). Her performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, making her the oldest Oscar nominee in that category. With a career spanning over 70 years, Stuart made her feature film debut in “Street of Women” (1932) and later signed a contract with Universal Pictures. She appeared in various films, including “The Invisible Man,” “Here Comes the Navy,” and “My Favorite Year.” As a founding member of the Hollywood Anti-Nazi League in the 1930s, Stuart was an outspoken critic of fascism and Nazism. Additionally, she was a dedicated environmental activist, serving on the board of directors for the non-profit organization, The Earth Communications Office, in the 1990s.
