Margaretta Large “Happy” Rockefeller was a philanthropist and the spouse of Vice President Nelson Rockefeller. As the Second Lady of the United States, she served from 1974 to 1977 and was the First Lady of New York from 1963 to 1973. Happy was actively involved in political and philanthropic activities, including serving as a public delegate to the United Nations in the early 1990s. She was a strong advocate for women’s health and the arts, playing a crucial role in founding the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government and the Empire State Plaza Art Collection. A dog lover, she also supported animal rescue efforts. Happy Rockefeller passed away on May 19, 2015, at 88 years old.
