J. Bruce Ismay was born on December 12, 1862, in Crosby, near Liverpool, England. He was a British businessman who took over his father’s position and eventually became the chairman of the White Star Line. Ismay is best known for surviving the sinking of the company’s ship, Titanic, in 1912. After his father’s death, he assumed the role of chairman and decided to construct four ocean liners, known as the Big Four, to surpass his father’s RMS Oceanic. These ships included RMS Celtic, RMS Cedric, RMS Baltic, and RMS Adriatic. Despite surviving the Titanic disaster, Ismay faced public criticism and allegations of cowardice for escaping the sinking ship while others lost their lives. He passed away on October 17, 1937, in London, leaving behind an estate valued at £693,305.
