Joan Lorring, originally named Madeline Ellis, was a talented actress and singer born in Hong Kong who gained recognition for her performances in both film and theater in the United States. She received critical acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Corn Is Green” (1945). Lorring also starred in notable films such as “Three Strangers” (1946) and “The Big Night” (1951) and won an Emmy Award for her work in the television series “Ben Casey” (1963). In addition to her acting career, she was a skilled painter who studied at the Art Students League of New York. Lorring passed away on May 30, 2014, at the age of 88.
