Jules Dassin was a prominent American film director, screenwriter, and actor who gained recognition for his works addressing crime and social injustice. He found success in both Hollywood and Europe, with notable films such as “Brute Force” (1947), “The Naked City” (1948), “Night and the City” (1950), “Rififi” (1955), “Never on Sunday” (1960), and “Topkapi” (1964). Due to the McCarthy era blacklisting, Dassin was forced to relocate to Europe, where he continued his career. He was honored with the Cannes Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.
