Julie London (1926-2000) was a renowned American jazz and pop singer and actress, recognized for her captivating, smoky voice. She rose to fame in the 1950s and 1960s with her renditions of jazz standards, torch songs, and pop ballads. London’s most notable work is her signature song “Cry Me a River,” which debuted in 1955. She also starred in the TV show “Emergency!” and appeared in films such as “The Girl Can’t Help It” and “Man of the West.” Throughout her career, London released over 30 albums and received a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Interestingly, she was voted Most Popular Female Vocalist by Billboard in 1955, 1956, and 1957. Despite her accomplishments, London struggled with stage fright and often relied on alcohol to ease her anxiety.
