Leila Hatami, born on October 1, 1972, in Tehran, Iran, is a renowned Iranian actress and film director. She was born into a family of artists, with her father, Ali Hatami, being a well-known Iranian film director, and her mother, Zahra Hatami, an actress. Before pursuing an acting career, Hatami studied Electrical Engineering and French literature.

Hatami made her acting debut at the age of 12 in her father’s film “Kamalolmolk” in 1984. She gained wider recognition for her role in the 1997 film “Leila,” directed by Dariush Mehrjui. Since then, she has starred in numerous critically acclaimed Iranian films, including “The Glass Agency” (1998), “The Circle” (2000), “Beneath the Olive Trees” (2000), and “The Last Supper” (2001). Hatami has also appeared in international productions such as “The Stoning of Soraya M.” (2008) and “Muhammad: The Messenger of God” (2015).

In recent years, Hatami has continued to act in both Iranian and international films, including “The Salesman” (2016), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and “Just 6.5” (2019). She has won numerous awards for her acting, including the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress at the Fajr International Film Festival for her roles in “Leila” (1997), “The Circle” (2000), and “The Last Supper” (2001). Additionally, she won the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her role in “The Separation” (2011).

She is married to Ali Mosaffa, an Iranian actor and director, and the couple has two children, a son named Mani and a daughter named Asal.
