Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (121-180 AD) was a Roman Emperor and Stoic philosopher, best known for his work “Meditations,” a collection of personal reflections on Stoic philosophy and guidance for self-improvement. In addition to his philosophical pursuits, Marcus Aurelius was actively involved in military campaigns and worked to combat corruption within the Roman government. He adopted his eventual successor, Commodus, and oversaw the development of significant public works projects in Rome. Some of his letters have been preserved in collections of ancient Roman literature.
