Matt Murray, born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, is a professional hockey player who has made a significant impact on the sport. Starting his career with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League, he quickly rose to prominence as a top goaltending prospect. Drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Murray made his NHL debut during the 2015-16 season.
His breakthrough came in the 2016-17 season when he became the starting goaltender for the Penguins, leading them to their fourth Stanley Cup championship. Murray’s exceptional play during the playoffs earned him the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player. He repeated this success in the 2017-18 season, winning his second Stanley Cup with the Penguins.
Murray’s accolades include being named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 2017 and winning two Stanley Cups. Off the ice, he is actively involved in charitable work, supporting organizations focused on children’s health and education.
