Milton Arthur Paul Caniff, an American cartoonist, gained fame for his influential comic strips Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon. Often referred to as “the Rembrandt of comic strips,” Caniff introduced intelligence, realism, and sensuality to the medium. His other notable works include Male Call, Dickie Dare, and his contributions to boosting the morale of U.S. troops during World War II. Caniff’s enduring impact on comics led to him receiving the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award and being inducted into the Will Eisner Comics Hall of Fame.
