Mother Angelica, a prominent Catholic nun, established the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) in 1981, growing it into the world’s largest religious media network. She began broadcasting faith-based programs from a repurposed garage in Birmingham, Alabama, and over two decades, expanded her media empire to encompass radio, TV, internet channels, and print media. Mother Angelica hosted the well-known show “Mother Angelica Live” and was awarded the papal medal Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009. A talented artist, she was recognized for her religious icons and paintings, such as the esteemed Divine Child Jesus painting exhibited at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Alabama. Mother Angelica passed away in 2016 at 92 years old.
