Park Ji-sung, born on March 30, 1981, in Seoul, is a retired South Korean footballer who is considered one of the greatest Asian players of all time. He played as a midfielder and is best known for his exceptional skills, versatility, and tireless work ethic. Park was a central figure in Manchester United’s Premier League victories and the South Korean national team’s run to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup. He has also captained PSV Eindhoven and Queens Park Rangers, in addition to the national team.
With 19 trophies to his name, Park is the first Asian footballer to have won the UEFA Champions League, which he achieved with Manchester United in the 2007-08 season. He is also a six-time domestic league champion. Fans nicknamed him “Three-lung Park” due to his impressive work-rate on the field.
Even after retiring as Asia’s most decorated player, Park remains a highly respected figure in the football world, inspiring young players in South Korea and beyond. He has also served as an ambassador for football in South Korea and as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
