Priscilla Chan, a philanthropist and pediatrician, is widely recognized for co-founding the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative with her husband, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This charitable organization focuses on addressing global issues such as poverty, disease, and education. Among her numerous accomplishments, Chan has collaborated with UCSF to establish the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, supported education through contributions to Summit Public Schools and AltSchool, and co-founded the Primary School, where she serves on the board of directors. She is also an advocate for immigration reform in the United States.
Chan, who married Zuckerberg in 2012, is the mother of their three daughters. Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, she often converses in Mandarin with Zuckerberg’s maternal grandmother. As a member of the Hoa ethnic minority group, Chan’s grandparents were Chinese immigrants to Vietnam. She frequently visits China to see family and friends and aims to use her language skills to foster cultural understanding between China and the United States.
