Queen Silvia, born Silvia Renate Sommerlath, is the wife of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. Known for her philanthropic efforts, she founded the Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital and the World Childhood Foundation, advocating for children’s and women’s rights. She also supports the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse, the arts, and cultural preservation.
Before joining the Swedish royal family, Silvia worked as a hostess and flight attendant for Lufthansa. She holds a degree in Spanish and studied at the Pontifical Catholic University in Argentina.
Queen Silvia’s dedication to humanitarian causes earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990. She’s fluent in Swedish, German, English, Portuguese, and Spanish. An accomplished pianist, she enjoys spending time with her family and pursuing her interests in music, dance, and sports.
