Ricardo Gabriel Ãlvarez, nicknamed “Ricky,” is a former Argentine professional footballer who gained fame for his exceptional skills as a central midfielder. Born on April 12, 1988, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ãlvarez began his football journey at a young age, inspired by his father, Gustavo Ãlvarez, a former professional footballer.
Ãlvarez showcased his talent from an early age, joining the youth academy of Club Atlético River Plate at the age of 11. He quickly rose through the ranks, making his professional debut for River Plate in 2008 at the age of 20. Known for his pace, dribbling abilities, and goal-scoring prowess, Ãlvarez quickly became a key player for the team, helping them win the Argentine Primera División title in the same year.
In 2009, Ãlvarez made a significant move to Italian Serie A club Internazionale for a reported fee of â¬12 million. However, he faced challenges securing regular playing time at Inter and was subsequently loaned out to various clubs, including Real Zaragoza, Sunderland, and Fiorentina. Despite these loan spells, Ãlvarez remained determined and returned to River Plate in 2012, where he contributed to the team’s Copa Campeonato victory in 2014.
Throughout his career, Ãlvarez played for several other clubs, including Sampdoria, Sunderland (again), and Vélez Sarsfield, before joining Atlas in Mexico in 2016. He currently plays for Club Atlético Independiente in Argentina.
On the international stage, Ãlvarez earned 11 caps for the Argentina national team between 2011 and 2016. He scored two goals for Argentina, including a memorable strike against Germany in a friendly match in 2012.
