Herbert Middleton Jr., known professionally as Taurean Blacque, was an American actor who gained fame for his portrayal of Detective Neal Washington on the highly praised TV series “Hill Street Blues.” In addition to his television work, Blacque was a skilled stage actor, appearing in numerous productions at the Alliance Theatre of Atlanta. He passed away on July 21, 2022, at 82 years old. Some of his other notable projects include “Roots: The Next Generations,” “Where the Buffalo Roam,” “Southern Comfort,” “Berrenger’s,” and “Frank’s Place.” Blacque earned an Emmy nomination for his performance in “Hill Street Blues” and served as a national spokesperson for adoptive services. Despite being widely recognized for his television role, Blacque was also considered one of the finest stage actors of his era.
