Vilmos Zsigmond, a Hungarian-American cinematographer, gained recognition for his pioneering work in American cinema. He was renowned for his innovative lighting techniques and utilization of natural light, which distinguished him in the industry. Zsigmond’s most notable works include his cinematography in iconic films like “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “The Deer Hunter,” as well as “Deliverance,” “The Long Goodbye,” and “McCabe & Mrs. Miller.” He received an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, and was inducted into the National Film Preservation Board. Zsigmond passed away on January 1, 2016, at 85 years old.
