Amos’s journey began in New York City, where he developed a passion for baking from his grandmother. He started his career in the music industry as a songwriter and producer before venturing into the food industry. In 1975, with only $25 and a dream, he founded the Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookie Company in Los Angeles, California.

The company’s success skyrocketed when Neiman Marcus placed an order for 100,000 cookies, propelling Amos to fame as the “Cookie King.” Despite selling the company in 1982, he continued his involvement in the food industry, establishing Uncle Wally’s Muffin Company and the Chip & Cookie Baking Company.

Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavors, Amos received numerous accolades, including the Horatio Alger Award and the NAACP Image Award. He was also inducted into the National Black Business Hall of Fame in 2008.
