William Clark (August 1, 1770 รขยย September 1, 1838) was a multifaceted American figure, known for his roles as an explorer, soldier, Indian agent, and territorial governor. He gained prominence for co-leading the Lewis and Clark Expedition with Meriwether Lewis from 1804 to 1806, which traversed the Louisiana Purchase to the Pacific Ocean, marking the first American expedition across the western portion of the United States. In addition to his exploration feats, Clark participated in the War of 1812 as a Brigadier-General and held the position of Superintendent of Indian Affairs. As a skilled mapmaker and cartographer, he also served as the governor of the Missouri Territory. Despite his numerous achievements, Clark faced financial struggles in his later years, ultimately selling some of his property to settle debts.
