A Jay Popoff, an American rock singer, is best known as the lead vocalist of the band Lit, which gained worldwide fame in the late 1990s with their hit single “My Own Worst Enemy.” Before forming Lit with his brother Jeremy, A Jay was a member of The Smokin’ Popes, but he left before they achieved recognition. He has also been involved in various music projects such as The White Tie Affair, The Warm Jets, and R40, and is credited with writing and providing vocals for the song “Written In the Sand” for the Netflix original series “The Umbrella Academy.”
A Jay experienced a personal loss when Lit’s drummer, Allen Schellenberger, passed away in 2009 due to a brain tumor, which he referred to as “losing a brother.” In 2012, three years after Schellenberger’s death, Lit released their album “The View From The Bottom.”
Married to Belinda Popoff, with whom he has a daughter, A Jay Popoff continues to be involved in the music industry and has established a successful career as a rock singer. Lit’s mainstream success began with their second album, “A Place in the Sun,” released in 1999.
