Aarón Gil, born in Madrid, Spain, is a renowned World Music Singer and the lead vocalist for the Mexican quintet Alta Consigna. The band gained fame with their 2016 albums, Asà Nacà and Culpable Tú. Formed in 2014, Alta Consigna initially recorded songs using only mobile phones and their own instruments.
Gil’s musical journey began at an early age, influenced by his musical family. He honed his skills by studying classical guitar at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and later pursued jazz at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In the early 2000s, Gil co-founded the band “Ojos de Brujo” with percussionist Xavi Turull. Their fusion of flamenco, rumba, and electronic music garnered international acclaim, leading to the release of several successful albums.
Gil’s solo career took flight in 2007 with the release of his debut album, “Ãntimo,” showcasing his versatility and collaborations with diverse artists. Subsequent solo albums, including “Flamenco Jazz,” “La Rumba del Siglo XXI,” and “El Sonido de la Calle,” further solidified his reputation.
Throughout his career, Gil has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Paco de LucÃa, Chick Corea, and Wynton Marsalis, and has received prestigious awards, including a Latin Grammy, a Spanish Grammy, a BBC Radio 3 World Music Award, and an Edison Award for World Music.
Beyond music, Gil is a producer and has contributed to film and television soundtracks. He is married to singer-songwriter SÃlvia Pérez Cruz, and they share two children.
An interesting fact about Aarón Gil is that he is a self-taught guitarist who began formal music lessons at the age of 16. He is fluent in Spanish, English, and Catalan.
