Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, an Egyptian politician and military officer, has been Egypt’s President since 2014. He rose to power in July 2013 after leading a military coup that ousted President Mohamed Morsi. El-Sisi was elected president in May 2014 and secured a second term in March 2018. Known for his authoritarian rule, he has cracked down on political opposition.

Throughout his career, El-Sisi has held various military and political positions, including serving as Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. He graduated from the Egyptian Military Academy, the British Army’s Joint Services Command and Staff College, and earned a Master’s Degree and Doctorate in Military Sciences from Egypt’s Nasser Military Academy.

El-Sisi’s notable accomplishments include launching a significant economic reform program to rejuvenate Egypt’s economy and initiating various infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of the Suez Canal. However, his presidency has been characterized by increasing authoritarianism, limited political opposition, and restrictions on civil liberties, including press freedom and freedom of assembly.

Although criticized for his rule, El-Sisi remains popular among many Egyptians. Nonetheless, his presidency has been tainted by human rights abuses and a lack of political freedoms. Interestingly, El-Sisi became Egypt’s de facto leader in July 2013 when the military removed President Mohammed Morsi from power after mass protests against his rule.
