Ahmed Orabi

Ahmed Orabi, born on March 31, 1841, was a prominent Egyptian nationalist and political figure who spearheaded a rebellion against British occupation in 1882. As Minister of War, he commanded the Egyptian forces during the First Sudanese War and played a significant role in modernizing the Egyptian army. A strong advocate for Arab unity, Orabi’s pan-Arabism beliefs greatly influenced his actions. Besides his military and political accomplishments, he was also a gifted poet whose works echoed his political convictions. Orabi was exiled to Sri Lanka from 1883 to 1901.
