Aino Kallas (1878-1956) was a renowned Finnish-Estonian writer, celebrated for her significant contributions to Finnish literature through her novellas. Among her most famous works are “The Wolf’s Bride,” an Estonian tale, “Barbara von Tisenhusen,” “The Pastor of Reigi,” and “Pyhän Joen kosto.” Kallas was also an active participant in cultural life, holding the position of chair for the Estonian Writers’ Union. Married to composer and diplomat Oskar Kallas, she resided in various European countries throughout her life. In her later years, Kallas developed a fascination with spirituality and esotericism, which subsequently influenced her writing.
