Anaïs Nin, a French-Cuban author, gained prominence in the 1940s and 1950s for her candid and controversial writings on female sexuality, including her journals, erotica, and psychoanalytic works. Notable titles such as “Delta of Venus,” “Little Birds,” and “The Diary of Anaïs Nin” showcase her intimate and personal writing style, which she developed from a young age. In fact, she was published at just eleven years old, with a series of essays in her school’s journal called “The Early Diary of Anaïs.” This early exposure to writing helped her cope with her parents’ separation and her father’s abandonment. Nin’s influence on feminist literature and sexual liberation continues to be felt today. She also dabbled in experimental filmmaking and collaborated with surrealist artists.
Another well-known Anais is AnaÃs MartÃnez, a Dominican singer from Santo Domingo who earned a Latin Grammy Award nomination for her debut album, “Asi Soy Yo.” She gained fame after winning the Puerto Rican singing competition show Objetivo Fama in 2005 and later joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop: New York.
