Andre Hazes, a legendary Dutch singer and songwriter, significantly contributed to the evolution of Dutch-language music with his passionate and raw voice. His influence on the Dutch music scene remains evident today, with famous works such as “Zij Gelooft in Mij,” “Kleine Jongen,” and “Een Beetje Verliefd.” Hazes received numerous accolades, including a Dutch Edison Award, and was known for his charismatic live performances.
In the 1980s, after signing a contract with EMI, Hazes’ career skyrocketed with hits like “Een Vriend” and “Een Beetje Verliefd,” establishing him as a top artist. He released over thirty albums, including the multi-platinum Gewoon Andre, and collaborated with Dutch guitarist Jan Akkerman on the album Dit Is Wat Ik Wil. Although he passed away in 2004 at the age of 53, Hazes’ music remains popular in the Netherlands and Flanders for its sentimental and straightforward lyrics. He is celebrated as a legend in the Dutch music genre known as “levenslied.”
