As a prominent figure in the “Polish film school,” Wajda directed a trilogy of war films, such as “A Generation” (1955), “Kanal” (1957), and “Ashes and Diamonds” (1958), as well as “Man of Marble” (1976), “Man of Iron” (1981), and “Katyn” (2007). Throughout his career, he received various awards, including an Honorary Oscar, the Palme d’Or, and Honorary Golden Lion and Golden Bear Awards.
