Despite her short stature, which made her unsuitable for leading lady roles, she had a prolific career acting alongside prominent leading men like Colin Clive, Robert Montgomery, James Cagney, Gary Cooper, Leslie Howard, Spencer Tracy, and Randolph Scott. Mercer’s most famous role was as Aunt Pitty-Pat in the 1939 classic film “Gone with the Wind.” She also appeared in notable films such as “The Lash,” “Trader Horn,” “David Copperfield,” and “Sadie McKee.” Mercer passed away in 1939.
