Born and raised in Crystal City, Missouri, Bradley gained prominence as a basketball player, leading Princeton’s team to an Ivy League title and the NCAA semifinals, winning an Olympic gold medal, and securing two NBA championships with the New York Knicks. As a Democratic U.S. senator from New Jersey, he served three terms from 1979 to 1997 and even pursued the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in the 2000 election.
