William Alexander “Bud” Abbott was an American comedian, actor, and producer who gained fame as the straight man in the renowned comedy duo Abbott and Costello. Their partnership, which lasted from the 1930s until the late 1950s, made them one of the most celebrated comedy teams in history. Some of Abbott’s most notable works include “Buck Privates,” “Who’s on First?,” “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,” and “The Naughty Nineties.” In recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1986.
Besides his illustrious comedy career, Bud Abbott had a profound love for baseball. He co-owned the minor league baseball team, the Hollywood Stars, and stayed involved in the sport even after retiring from show business. His commitment to baseball was so unwavering that he declined an invitation to perform at the White House due to a scheduling conflict with baseball season.
