Cathy Tyson is a British actress and performer. She is best known for her role in the film “Mona Lisa” as Simone aka “Simone the bitch”, which earned her critical acclaim and several award nominations. Some of her other notable works include “The Serpent and the Rainbow,” “The Bill,” “Doctors,” and “Band of Gold.” Tyson is also a classically trained dancer and has performed with the Royal Ballet.
Cathy Tyson was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, England to Jamaican parents. Her parents named her after the protagonist in the Emily Bronte novel “Wuthering Heights”. While Tyson has stated that she did not enjoy the novel, she appreciates the significance of her namesake and the strength of the character Heathcliff.
Cathy Tyson is a supporter of several charities, including the Anthony Nolan Trust, a stem cell and bone marrow donation organization. She also supports the Caring Cancer Trust, which helps children with cancer, and the breast cancer awareness organization CoppaFeel!. Tyson has participated in various fundraising events for these charities and even completed a skydive to raise funds for the Anthony Nolan Trust.
