Irish actor David Kelly was best known for his portrayal of Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He also appeared in films such as Stardust, Into the West, The Jigsaw Man, and Waking Ned Devine. In addition to his film work, Kelly was an accomplished stage actor and had a passion for sculpting. Some of his other notable roles include Strumpet City, Me Mammy, Fawlty Towers, and Robin’s Nest. In 1991, Kelly won a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Supporting Performer and was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in Waking Ned. Sadly, Kelly passed away in 2012, leaving behind a legacy as one of Ireland’s most cherished actors.
