Dean Martin was a charismatic American country music crooner who rose to fame in the 1940s as a nightclub performer who later on appeared on television as part of the duo Martin & Lewis. When he pursued a solo career, he found luck in Las Vegas where he became good friends with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. forming the popular group called the Rat Pack.

He was known as ‘Kid Crochet’ when he became a boxer at 15. When he quit boxing, he joined a local band and billed himself as ‘Dino Martini’, as inspired by the Italian operatic singer Nino Martini. He then changed his name to Dean Martin in the 1940s as suggested by the bandleader Sammy Watkins.

The great Elvis Presley was a huge fan of Martin and was said to have followed his performance style, notably in his song ‘Love Me Tender’ (1956). Also, his signature song ‘Everybody Loves Somebody’ (1947) replaced The Beatles’ ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ on the top spot in 1964.
