Dee Dee Blanchard was a mother who had a complex relationship with her daughter, Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Dee Dee had Munchausen syndrome by proxy and forced Gypsy to pretend she was terminally ill and wheelchair-bound. This led to Dee Dee’s murder at the hands of Gypsy and her boyfriend. Dee Dee is best known for her role in the HBO documentary “Mommy Dead and Dearest.” Other notable mentions include her involvement in multiple charity organizations and her relationship with her daughter Gypsy.
After marrying Rod Blanchard, Dee Dee took his surname. Dee Dee and Rod had a daughter named Gypsy Rose Blanchard in 1991.
Dee Dee Blanchard’s family members and neighbors believed that Dee Dee had cancer, muscular dystrophy, among other illnesses, and that her daughter Gypsy was similarly afflicted during their early years in Louisiana. However, it was later discovered that Dee Dee had been fabricating Gypsy’s medical issues for attention and financial gain.
