William Ralph “Dixie” Dean (1907-1980) is considered one of the greatest English footballers, particularly renowned for his role as a centre-forward. He played for Everton between 1925 and 1937, during which he set an unparalleled record by scoring 60 league goals in just one season. Dean’s contributions led Everton to two First Division titles and an FA Cup victory. Representing England, he earned 16 caps and scored 18 international goals, participating in the 1934 World Cup. In 2002, he was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. However, Dean’s post-retirement life was marred by depression, financial struggles, and alcoholism, and he passed away at 73 years old.
