Dominique Sanda, a celebrated French actress, gained prominence for her performances in international cinema during the 60s and 70s. Born in Paris in 1951, she started her acting career at a young age and later became a fashion model. Sanda received the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in Bernardo Bertolucci’s “The Conformist.” Her other distinguished works include “The Garden of the Finzi-Continis,” “1900,” “The Inheritance,” and “Innocents with Dirty Hands.” In addition to her film career, Sanda appeared in numerous theatre productions, earning critical acclaim for her performances.
After her acting career, Sanda ventured into politics, joining the Italian Communist Party and running as a candidate for the European Parliament elections in 1999 under the Communist Refoundation Party. A passionate advocate for animal rights, she collaborated with various organizations to support animal welfare.
