Emily McLaughlin was a renowned American actress, widely recognized for her portrayal of Nurse Jessie Brewer on the soap opera General Hospital. Her exceptional performance in the show for over twenty years earned her the title of the original queen of soap operas. In addition to General Hospital, she appeared in various television shows such as Fireside Theatre, The Loretta Young Show, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Her accomplishments in the entertainment industry led to her receiving a posthumous Healthcare Humanitarian Award from the organization Nurses for a Healthier Tomorrow.
McLaughlin made her television debut in 1959, taking on the regular role of Eileen Seaton in the daytime soap opera Young Doctor Malone. She also made a cameo appearance in the film Young Doctors in Love and featured in an episode of The Twilight Zone. A talented pianist, McLaughlin studied at the Eastman School of Music and even considered pursuing a career in music before ultimately deciding to focus on acting.
