Enoch Powell (1912-1998) was a prominent British politician recognized for his contentious 1968 “Rivers of Blood” speech, in which he cautioned against the perils of large-scale immigration to the UK. A classical scholar, Powell published numerous works on ancient Greek literature and served as the Minister of Health. He was also a member of the Ulster Unionist Party and advocated for civil rights in Northern Ireland.
