Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, commonly referred to as “the Black Panther,” was a legendary Portuguese footballer renowned for his remarkable runs through defenders and exceptional scoring ability. As a striker, he played for both Benfica and the Portuguese national team. Among his notable achievements are winning the Ballon d’Or in 1965, contributing to Portugal’s third-place finish in the 1966 World Cup, and securing the European Cup in 1962. Eusébio was also named European Footballer of the Year in 1965. Throughout his career, he scored an impressive 473 goals in 440 competitive matches for Benfica and became the top scorer in the Portuguese league on seven occasions. Eusébio made 64 appearances for the national team, scoring 41 goals. Often regarded as the greatest Portuguese football player of all time, Eusébio passed away on January 5, 2014, at the age of 71.
