Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad, commonly known as Frida, is a Norwegian-born Swedish singer-songwriter and environmentalist who gained international fame as a founding member and lead vocalist of the legendary pop group ABBA. With her distinctive mezzo-soprano voice and striking auburn hair, Frida was instrumental in defining ABBA’s sound and image during their 1970s peak, contributing her powerful vocals to renowned hits such as “Mamma Mia” and “Dancing Queen.”
Prior to her time with ABBA, Frida performed as a jazz and schlager singer in various Swedish clubs, recorded backing vocals for other musicians, and sang advertising jingles. In 1982, she launched a successful solo career with the album “Something’s Going On,” featuring the popular single “I Know There’s Something Going On.”
Frida’s musical achievements were acknowledged when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of ABBA in 2010. In addition to her work with the group, she has collaborated with numerous artists and released several solo albums. Frida is also recognized for her environmental activism. ABBA’s music continues to be celebrated, and Frida remains a significant figure in the music industry as one half of the group’s iconic vocal duo.
