Geno Auriemma, an Italian-American basketball coach, has achieved remarkable success at the University of Connecticut. He has guided the UConn women’s basketball team to eleven NCAA Division I national championships, making him one of the most successful coaches in the sport’s history. Auriemma’s coaching career began in 1979, and he quickly transformed UConn into a dominant force, leading them to their first-ever 20-win season, conference title, and NCAA Tournament appearance. He has been inducted into multiple sports halls of fame and has received numerous honors, including eight national coach of the year awards. Auriemma has also coached the US Women’s Basketball team to multiple Olympic gold medals. In 2022, he was enshrined in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Additionally, Auriemma holds dual citizenship in Italy and the United States and has previously coached the Italian National Basketball Team.
