Romero was a prominent American-Canadian filmmaker, writer, and actor, widely recognized for his groundbreaking 1968 film “Night of the Living Dead,” which played a significant role in popularizing the zombie horror genre. In 2021, it was the second-most downloaded movie on the Internet. Romero’s other distinguished works include “Dawn of the Dead” (1978), “Land of the Dead” (2005), “Two Evil Eyes” (1990), and “Monkey Shines” (1988). His Night of the Living Dead series greatly influenced the modern portrayal of zombies in popular culture. Romero passed away on July 16, 2017, in Toronto, Canada.
