George Wilcken Romney was a prominent American businessman and politician who held various significant positions throughout his career. Between 1954 and 1962, he was the chairman and president of American Motors Corporation, where he successfully turned the company around. He then served as the 43rd governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969, during which time he was a strong advocate for civil rights. Following his tenure as governor, Romney became the 3rd secretary of Housing and Urban Development, serving from 1969 to 1973. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he was also a leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
