Golda Meir, the first woman to become Israel’s prime minister, was a highly influential and, at times, controversial figure in world politics. As the fourth prime minister, she played a crucial role in establishing a Jewish and Zionist Israel. Meir’s political career included serving as the Israeli ambassador to the Soviet Union and negotiating the end of the Yom Kippur War. As the head of the political department of the Jewish Agency, she assisted Jewish refugees in escaping Nazi persecution and immigrating to Palestine. Furthermore, she was a strong advocate for women’s rights in Israel.
