Greg Louganis, an American Olympic diver and LGBTQ+ activist, is often hailed as the greatest diver of all time. He made history by winning gold medals in both the springboard and platform events at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics, making him the only man and second diver ever to achieve this feat in consecutive Olympic Games. In addition to his Olympic success, Louganis has won five World Championship titles and 47 U.S. national titles.
Adopted as a baby by Peter and Frances Louganis, Greg has embraced elements of Samoan culture throughout his life and career. Before discovering his passion for diving at the age of nine, he competed in trampoline competitions. Louganis is also a trained actor, dancer, model, and spokesperson.
Despite facing personal challenges, such as being diagnosed with HIV, Louganis has shown remarkable resilience. He authored a bestselling memoir, “Breaking the Surface,” and has worked as a coach for USA Diving. Inducted into the Olympic Hall of Fame, Louganis continues to inspire people worldwide with his courage and perseverance. Among his notable appearances, he participated in the Last Dive event with Tom Daley at the Marguerite Aquatic Center’s dive tower in Mission Viejo.
